Facebook Messenger gains screen sharing on Android and iOS

Screen sharing can be useful in several ways, like helping to troubleshoot a problem or look at photos together, and now one of the most popular messaging apps on mobile is gaining that feature.

Facebook Messenger is adding screen sharing to its Android and iOS apps. With this feature, you can share a live view of your screen both when you're video calling another person and if you're participating in bigger group video chat in Messenger Rooms.

Screen sharing works in one-on-one video calls in Messenger as well as group video calls with up to 8 people. In Messenger Rooms, you can share your screen with up to 16 people.

This feature is also available on the web and desktop versions of Messenger.

Looking ahead, Facebook says that it plans to let you share your screen with up to 50 people in Messenger Rooms. Additionally, the creator of a Messenger Room will soon be able to control who can share their screen in a Rooms video call.

Lots of people rely on their smartphone for communicating with others, and that includes doing a lot of the things that screen sharing is great for. With this feature on phones, you can more easily walk someone through the solution to a problem they're having with their phone, share photos and videos on your device, show a web page, and more.

Screen sharing is now available around the world in the Messenger apps of Android (Play Store) and iOS (App Store).
