Sony is slowing PlayStation Network downloads in US and Europe

We've seen quite a few services make adjustments to how they work due to the coronavirus, like YouTube making standard quality the default, and now Sony is tweaking the PlayStation Network.

Sony confirmed today that it will begin slowing PlayStation Network downloads in the US. This decision comes just a few days after Sony slowed PSN downloads in Europe.

"Players may experience somewhat slower or delayed game downloads but will still enjoy robust gameplay," explained Jim Ryan, Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO. "We appreciate the support and understanding from our community, and their doing their part, as we take these measures in an effort to preserve access for everyone."

With many people self-isolating at home due to the coronavirus, services like Netflix, YouTube, and the PlayStation Network are seeing heavier than normal use as people are staying at home and looking for entertainment. As a result, many services are making adjustments to reduce strain on internet usage. That includes PlayStation Network, but these changes shouldn't affect your online multiplayer sessions.
