MWC 2020 may not have happened this year but phone companies still have new phones to announce, and that includes HMD Global and its quartet of new devices.
First up is the Nokia 8.3 5G, which is HMD's first 5G Nokia smartphone. This model is touted by HMD as a "truly global, future-proof 5G smartphone" because of its support for multiple 5G networks, including both standalone and non-standalone. Included is support for 5G NR bands from 600MHz up to 3.8GHz.
Another highlight feature of the Nokia 8.3 5G is its rear camera array. The quad camera setup includes a 64MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra wide cam, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro camera. ZEISS optics are included as well as a ZEISS Cinema editor and a focus on low-light video recording.
The front of the Nokia 8.3 5G is home to a 6.81-inch FHD+ display with a hole-punch and a 24MP selfie camera. There's a side-mounted fingerprint reader built into the power button, too, plus USB-C charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Other features include a Snapdragon 765G processor paired with 6/8GB of RAM, 64/128GB of built-in storage, a microSD card slot, and a 4500mAh battery. All those features are packed into a body with a color called Polar Night that's meant to remind you of the Northern Lights.
On the software side, the Nokia 8.5 5G comes preloaded with Android 10 and is guaranteed to get two years of OS updates and three years of monthly security updates.
The Nokia 8.3 5G will launch globally in summer 2020. It'll start at €599 EUR ($640 USD) for the 6GB/64GB model and go up to €649 EUR ($693 USD) for the 8GB/128GB flavor.
Next is the Nokia 5.3. It's meant to be a more affordable phone — launching in April for €189 EUR ($202 USD) — but it's still got a quad rear camera array with a 13MP main cam, 5MP ultra wide sensor, 2MP depth cam, and 2MP macro camera.
The display on the Nokia 5.3 is a 6.55-inch HD+ panel with a notch where the 8MP selfie cam lives. Other specs include a Snapdragon 665 processor, 3/4/6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and a rear fingerprint reader. A 3.5mm headphone jack is included, too, as is a 4000mAh battery and USB-C charging.
HMD says the Nokia 5.3 is "ready for Android 11" and that it'll get regular security updates.
Moving on down the line, we're greeted by the Nokia 1.3. This is an Android 10 (Go edition) phone that's ready for an update to Android 11.
The Nokia 1.3's feature set includes an 8MP rear camera with AI low-light enhancement and a 5MP selfie cam that lives in a notch at the top of the 5.71-inch HD+ screen. Inside there's a Snapdragon 215 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a microSD card slot with support for cards up to 400GB.
Also packed into the Nokia 1.3 is a 3000mAh battery that's user removable — a feature we don't see much anymore — and a microUSB charging port. A 3.5mm headphone jack is included as well.
The Nokia 1.3 will launch in April at a price of €95 EUR ($101 USD).
Finally, there's the Nokia 5310, which is an updated version of the Nokia 5310 Xpress Music that originally launched way back in 2007.
The new Nokia 5310 keeps the music focus of the original, boasting dual front-facing speakers, a built-in FM radio with no need for headphones (though there is a 3.5mm headphone jack included), and built-in music control buttons on the right side.
This is a feature phone that runs the Series 30+ OS and features a candybar form factor with a 2.4-inch display and VGA rear camera. There's only 16MB of storage built-in, but you can add 32GB of additional storage with a microSD card.
Finally, the 1200mAh battery included with the Nokia 5310 is user removable, and HMD says it's got a standby time of 22 days on the dual SIM model and 30 days on the single SIM version.
The Nokia 5310 will be available starting this month for €39 EUR ($42 USD).
