Tidal adding Dolby Atmos for more immersive music listening

Tidal has always placed a focus on high-quality audio, offering its Tidal HiFi streaming to customers who want uncompressed music files. Now those subscribers are getting even more high-end audio.

Tidal is adding Dolby Atmos Music to its service. Starting today, Tidal HiFi customers on Android can access music in Dolby Atmos from Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group and artists like The Weeknd, Blondie, Ariana Grande, and more. Tidal says it's working with artists like Jay-Z to mix their catalogs in Dolby Atmos and that they'll become available in 2020.

Android devices that are compatible with Dolby Atmos audio on Tidal include the Samsung devices like the Galaxy S10 and S10+, Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Tab S5, and others; Huawei's Mate 20 X, Mate 20 Pro, and others; the Oppo Reno Ace and others; the Razer Phone 2; and Sony's Xperia 1 and Xperia 5.

If a piece of music is available in Dolby Atmos, it'll automatically default to that version. These songs will have a Dolby logo badge as well as a Dolby Atmos identifier that'll be displayed when a song is selected. If you'd like to view the songs available in Dolby Atmos, just go to the "Explore" tab in the Tidal app and select the "Dolby Atmos" menu option.

With Dolby Atmos music, instruments and vocals can be isolated and use three-dimensional space. This means that while you're listening, you could hear drums behind you and bass and guitar to your left and right, helping to make you more immersed in the music.
