Google Assistant's Interpreter Mode now rolling out to all Android and iOS phones

Google's Assistant's Interpreter Mode is expanding in a big way.

After previously only being available on Google Home smart speakers and smart displays, Interpreter Mode is now rolling out to all Android and iOS devices with Google Assistant worldwide. Because the feature is integrated with Assistant, it's already enabled on Android. iPhone owners can get it by downloading the Google Assistant app.

Interpreter Mode allows you to have a conversation with someone speaking a foreign language. Just say something like "Hey Google, be my Spanish translator" or "Hey Google, help me speak German" and you'll both see and hear the translated conversation on your phone.

After each translation, Google Assistant might show you Smart Replies, which are quick ways for you to respond without speaking to help make your conversation faster.

Interpreter Mode can help you translate conversations across 44 languages. They are:

  • Arabic
