OnePlus 8 Lite could be a new mid-range model with a flat display

Leaks have suggested that OnePlus will launch two new phones in the first half of next year: the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. Now it looks like the company may have a third phone in the works.

New renders claim to show a OnePlus 8 Lite, which is expected to be a new mid-range offering from OnePlus. The CAD-based renders from 91mobiles and OnLeaks suggest that this phone could have a few notable changes from the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, like a flat display rather than one with curved edges.

That screen will reportedly be 6.4 or 6.5 inches in size and have a hole-punch front camera centered at the top of the display rather than pushed off to the side like is rumored for the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro.

Around back there are two rear cameras stacked vertically along with a few other sensors, possibly a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor to help gather depth information. There's a USB-C port on the bottom of this OnePlus 8 Lite and no headphone jack. There's no fingerprint reader to be found in these renders, so the phone may use an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The OnePlus 8 Lite will reportedly measure 159.2 x 74 x 8.6mm. To compare, the OnePlus 7T is 160.94 x 74.44 x 8.13mm and the OnePlus 7T Pro is 162.6 x 75.9 x 8.8mm.

OnePlus has traditionally been focused on flagship smartphones, but back in 2015 it did release the OnePlus X, which was its attempt at a mid-range phone. While it was aggressively priced at $249, the phone may not have gained as much traction with consumers as OnePlus would've liked because the company has never made a second model.

There's not much known about this OnePlus 8 Lite's specs or pricing yet, but if it is a "Lite" mid-range phone, it should have a lower price tag that could make it a more affordable alternative to the pricier OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro.
