Moto G8 Plus leaks out with triple rear camera setup

The Moto G7 series is not particularly old, having been announced around eight months ago, but new leaks show that Motorola is already preparing to introduce its next generation of Moto G phones.

Images that purportedly show the Moto G8 Plus (above) and Moto G8 (below) have leaked out. The official-looking renders come from WinFuture and Mobielkopen, respectively, and they show that the two phones will have fairly similar designs. The main differences appear to be that the Moto G8 Plus has an extra sensor on its backside and a slightly smaller notch.

According to the new reports, the Moto G8 Plus will have a 48MP main camera on its backside along with a 16MP wide angle camera with 116-degree field of view, a 5MP depth cam, and a laser autofocus sensor. Around back is a 25MP selfie camera living in a notch at the top of the Moto G8 Plus's 6.3-inch 2280x1080 screen.

Motorola has allegedly packed an octa-core Snapdragon 665 processor into the Moto G8 Plus's body along with 4GB of RAM, 64GB and 128GB of storage options, a microSD card slot, and a 4000mAh battery along with TurboPower fast charging support. Rounding things out is a rear fingerprint reader, dual SIM support, NFC, USB-C, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Android 9 Pie.

Specs for the non-Plus Moto G8 are considerably lighter, but the backside of the device does appear to be missing the laser autofocus sensor found on the Moto G8 Plus.

The Moto G7 Plus includes a dual rear camera setup with a 16MP main sensor and 5MP depth camera, so this Moto G8 Plus looks like it'll be a major upgrade when it comes to the rear cameras. The processor has been upgraded, too, and the battery is significantly larger. So overall this looks like a big upgrade over the Moto G7 Plus that launched earlier this year.

It's said that Motorola is hosting an event in Brazil on October 24th at which the new Moto G8 phones will be shown. It's kind of strange to see Motorola updating its Moto G series so soon, but if you're in the market for an affordable new Android phone, it could be worth waiting for this Motorola event later this month to learn more about the Moto G8 series phones.
