iOS 13 is running on 50% of all iPhone models

Now that we're around a month out from the release of iOS 13, Apple has posted some stats that show what user adoption of the major iOS update has been like.

Apple says that 55% of all iPhones introduced in the last four years are currently running iOS 13. The company also notes that 38% of all iPhones introduced in the last four years are running iOS 12, while 7% of those devices are running an older version of iOS.

When you include all iPhones, Apple touts that iOS 13 is on 50% of  all iPhone models. iOS 12 is on 41% of all iPhone devices, while 9% are on pre-iOS 12 versions.

Apple has separate stats for the iPad and iPadOS. The iPadOS update that was rolled out just a few weeks ago is now on 41% of all iPad devices introduced in the last four years, while iOS 12 is on 51% of all iPad devices introduced within the last four years and 8% are on earlier versions of iOS.

Finally, 33% of all iPad devices are currently running iPadOS, while 51% are on iOS 12 and 16% are on an earlier version of iOS.

These stats were all measured by the App Store yesterday, October 15th.

It's pretty impressive that iOS 13 is on half of all iPhone devices just one month after its launch. Of course, it helps that iOS 13 is available on devices going back to the iPhone 6s from 2015, as well as the fact that Apple is able to release iOS updates to all devices at once rather than having carrier testing delay rollouts. It's also notable that another 41% of iPhones are running iOS 12, meaning 91% of iPhone devices are running software from 2018 or later. These stats can be helpful to developers in figuring out which features and devices to target when making apps.
