New Huawei P30 Pro with Android 10 announced alongside Kirin 990, FreeBuds 3 earbuds

Huawei took to the IFA 2019 stage today to introduce a "new" phone, a new flagship processor, and a new pair of wireless earbuds.

First up, the new Huawei P30 Pro is similar to the regular P30 Pro that launched earlier this year, but it's got two major new features. The first is the new dual finish, with two-thirds of the phone's backside sporting a matte finish and the top third having a glossy finish. These new finishes are available in Mystic Blue and Misty Lavender color options.

The other notable feature of these new P30 Pro models is that they come with Android 10 running below Huawei's EMUI 10 overlay. The update includes improved animations and transitions, camera improvements like Super Night Selfie, and a system-wide dark mode.

The new P30 Pro will launch on September 20.

Also introduced today is the Kirin 990, Huawei's new flagship System-on-Chip. This new SoC offers a 20 percent improvement in overall performance and a 30 percent enhancement to energy efficiency over the Kirin 980, as well as 30 percent GPU performance improvement.

Huawei plans to offer a version of the Kirin 990 with 5G support baked in. Using sub-6GHz, this Kirin 990 offers theoretical peak download speeds of 2.3Gbps and theoretical peak upload speeds of 1.25Gbps. The same chipset also offers 2G, 3G, and 4G support.

There haven't been any new phones announced with this Kirin 990 processor yet, but the Mate 30 that's debuting later this month seems like a solid bet to have a Kirin 990 inside.

Finally, Huawei introduced its new FreeBuds 3 truly wireless earbuds today. One of the major new features of the FreeBuds 3 is the active noise cancellation, which Huawei claims is a world-first for open-fit earbuds.

Huawei also touts that the FreeBuds 3 offer a Dolphin Bionic design to more comfortably fit in your ears and a built-in bone voice sensor that can better pick up your voice using bone vibrations. The controls on the FreeBuds 3 allow you double-tap the right earbud to play or switch music, while double-tapping the left earbud will turn the noise cancellation on or off.

The case that the FreeBuds 3 come in offer pop-up pairing on Huawei phones running EMUI 10 or higher. And when it comes time to charge the FreeBuds 3, you can plug the case in and charge over USB-C or drop the case onto a wireless charging pad.
