Most of the recent Apple leaks and rumors are focused on the features that the iPhone 11 will have when it's announced next week, but today a report is offering up info on the 2020 iPhone.
Next year's iPhone will reportedly have a few major upgrades. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via 9to5Mac) says that the 2020 iPhone will have "(1) all-new form factor design, (2) 5G support, and (3) camera function upgrades." No details on the new design or camera upgrades were included in today's report, but Kuo has previously hinted that the 2020 iPhone could gain a Time of Flight sensor, which would help the phone gather depth information.
This isn't the first time that we've heard about big changes coming to the 2020 iPhones. Kuo previously predicted that next year's OLED iPhones will have different screen sizes, with the larger model moving to a 6.7-inch screen and the smaller version shrinking to a 5.4-inch screen. To compare, the iPhone XS Max and iPhone XS have 6.5-inch and 5.8-inch displays, respectively.
While it's still a rumor for now, a new iPhone design in 2020 does seem likely. Leaks have suggested that the iPhone 11 will have the same design as the iPhone XS and iPhone X, making this the third year that Apple will use that design. Plus, it's expected that the 2020 iPhone will have 5G support, which could require Apple to come up with a new design as it adds 5G connectivity and may need to rearrange some parts for it.
