Samsung Galaxy Home now expected to launch in Q3 2019

Samsung previously said that the Galaxy Home would launch in April, but the month came and went without the release of the Bixby-powered smart speaker. Now Samsung has a new potential Galaxy Home launch window.

The Samsung Galaxy Home is now slated to be released in Q3 2019. "The Galaxy Home speaker, which will be the center of Samsung’s home appliances, is planned to be launched in mid-second half of the year," said Samsung Electronics' Consumer Electronics CEO Kim Hyun-suk. The Korea Herald adds that many Samsung executives interpret "mid-second half of the year" to mean the third quarter.

Samsung originally introduced the Galaxy Home in August 2018. The device is a fabric-covered smart speaker that uses Samsung's Bixby assistant to play music and perform other functions that Bixby can do on a Galaxy phone. The Galaxy Home includes AKG branding along with six speakers to give you surround sound-style audio and eight far-field microphones so that it can hear you even when there's music playing.

There's no word on how much the Galaxy Home might cost.

It's kind of strange that the Galaxy Home hasn't launched after it was announced back in August, so whatever's going on, hopefully Samsung can get it onto shelves in its target Q3 window. FCC filings have suggested that Samsung is working on a smaller Galaxy Home smart speaker, so perhaps both devices will launch together later this year.
