Mystery Google device with Bluetooth passes through FCC

Ready for a Google mystery?

A new Google device has been spotted in the FCC with the model number G022A (via 9to5Google). To compare, the recently launched Pixel 3a has the model number G020A. However, evidence in the FCC filing suggests that this new G022A device isn't a phone.

First, the FCC only lists Bluetooth connectivity, meaning there's no LTE or Wi-Fi included. And then there's the FCC e-label, which the filing says is accessible "in the companion APP settings menu: Select: System > About > Regulatory". That suggests that this product may not have a screen of its own to display its FCC e-label on.

This mystery product is listed as a "wireless device" in the FCC filing, but unfortunately there's not much more info to be found. Google has requested confidentiality on the filing, which means that diagrames, internal and external photos, and the user manual are all hidden.

Considering that this G022A product only has Bluetooth connectivity and may not have a screen, it sounds like Google may be cooking up a new accessory. Perhaps a new version of Google's Pixel Buds wireless earbuds or something like that is in the works? Hopefully we won't have to wait long to find out exactly what Google is working on.
