Following some recent leaks that claimed to reveal the new features of Apple's upcoming iPhones, a new report has emerged that backs up many of the previous rumors.
Apple will include a new A13 processor in this year's updates to the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, according to a report from Bloomberg. It's said that the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max follow-ups have the codenames D43 and D44, respectively, while the successor to the iPhone XR is codenamed N104.
While all three of these upcoming iPhones are expected to look like last year's models, they'll reportedly get upgraded cameras. The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max updates are expected to gain a third camera (as shown in the renders above) that'll be an ultra wide-angle lens and give the user a broader range of zoom. These three cameras will be placed in a square in the top left of the phones' backsides. Apple is also reportedly working on a feature that'll fit people back into a photo if they were accidentally cut out.
Meanwhile, the successor to the iPhone XR is reportedly getting a second rear camera (as shown in a render below) that will offer increased zoom.
Today's report also claims that the iPhone XS and XS Max updates will be about half a millimeter thicker. Both the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max measure 7.7mm thick.
Finally, it's expected that Apple's upcoming iPhones will include a feature that will let you wirelessly charge AirPods and other devices by laying them on the back of the new iPhones. Samsung's Galaxy S10 series includes a feature called Wireless PowerShare that lets you wirelessly charge other Qi-equipped devices by placing them on the back of the Galaxy S10.
Some folks may be disappointed to hear that Apple is likely to reuse the iPhone X/iPhone XS design for another year, but such a move wouldn't be a big surprise. Rumors have suggested that Apple will release its first 5G iPhone in 2020, and giving that device a new design could help make it that much bigger of a deal and could be necessary for Apple to fit a 5G chip into that new iPhone's body. So for its 2019 models, Apple can stick with the design it's had the past two years but add a wide angle camera, which is a trendy feature on Android phones lately.
