Optical zoom lenses are a popular addition to smartphones with multi-camera setups, but typically we see phones with 2x or 3x telephoto snappers. Oppo may soon blow those away with a new optical zoom camera.
Oppo may announce a 10x optical zoom camera for smartphones later this month. A teaser from the company is making the rounds online with a tagline that roughly translates to "Ten to see". There's a date on the teaser that reads "2019 1 16", so we may learn more in a couple of days.
Back in 2017, Oppo announced a 5x zoom smartphone camera, so it's certainly possible that the company has now managed to create a 10x zoom camera for phones. The thing we don't know is if this will be just a camera meant for use in smartphones or if Oppo has an entirely new smartphone with a 10x zoom camera. Either way, a smartphone camera with 10x optical zoom would be a pretty impressive achievement.
