One month ago, Xiaomi president Lin Bin teased an upcoming phone with a 48MP rear camera. Now that device has been officially revealed.
Meet the Redmi Note 7. This is the latest affordable Android phone made by Xiaomi, and its highlight feature is the dual rear camera setup that includes a 48MP snapper. When you're taking a photo, the Redmi Note 7 uses Samsung's Tetra cell technology to merge four pixels into one large 1.6um pixel, boosting light sensitivity and making the 12MP image that it outputs brighter and clearer. You can also capture 48MP photos if you want a super high-res image.
The secondary sensor in the Redmi Note 7's dual rear camera setup is a 5MP AI lens. The dual rear cameras also offer features like auto HDR, electronic image stabilization, and portrait mode. Around front is a 13MP camera with with its own AI portrait mode and an AI Smart Beauty feature.
The 6.3-inch display on the Redmi Note 7 has a resolution of 2340x1080 and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and yes, there is a waterdrop notch at the top of the display that houses the front camera. Inside the new Redmi phone is an octa-core Snapdragon 660 processor with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, as well as a microSD card slot if you need more storage. A 4000mAh battery powers the whole package, and a rear fingerprint reader gives the device added security.
Xiaomi is launching the Redmi Note 7 in China at a starting price of 999 yuan ($147 USD) for the model with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Also available is a 4GB/64GB model for 1199 yuan ($177 USD) and a top-end 6GB/64GB version for 1399 yuan ($206 USD).
With a 48MP rear camera, 4000mAh battery, and $147 starting price, the Redmi Note 7 is definitely an attractive Android smartphone. Unfortunately, like most of other Xiaomi's products, it's unlikely we'll see the Redmi Note 7 make its way to the U.S.
