T-Mobile now supporting eSIM on iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR

T-Mobile is the latest U.S. carrier to roll out eSIM support for the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR.

T-Mobile today launched its eSIM app, which allows you to quickly set up a secondary prepaid line on your iPhone. You can do everything from the app, including choosing from one of three prepaid plans, meaning you don't have to go to a store to set up your secondary line. Only prepaid lines are supported right now, but T-Mo says that it plans to offer postpaid support for eSIM "in the future."

Here are the T-Mobile prepaid plans that you can use with your iPhone's eSIM feature:

  • T-Mobile One Prepaid with unlimited voice, text, and data for $70; 30 day plan
  • Simply Prepaid with unlimited voice, text, and 10GB of LTE data for $40; 30 day plan
  • Tourist Plan with 1000 minutes, unlimited text, and 2GB of LTE data for $30; 21 day plan

eSIM is available on iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR devices running iOS 12.1.1 or later.

AT&T and Verizon launched support for eSIM on Apple's new iPhones earlier this month, so it's nice to see T-Mobile rolling out support for it as well. Sprint has said that it plans to support eSIM, too, but it hasn't given any timeframe in which the feature might roll out.

Dual SIM phones have long been popular internationally, but they've never really been a thing for U.S. cellphone owners. Dual SIM can come in handy in a few different situations, like if you have separate personal and business phone numbers, you can use dual SIM to carry just one device. It's also an option if you want to test out another carrier's coverage but you don't want to get rid of your current phone number or buy a whole new phone.

Are you going to give Apple's eSIM feature a try?
