NVIDIA SHIELD TV gets update with Amazon Music, goes on sale for the holidays

If you've been thinking about buying an NVIDIA SHIELD TV, the folks at NVIDIA have a couple of announcements to convince you to make the purchase.

The NVIDIA SHIELD TV is now getting the SHIELD Experience Upgrade 7.2 update. With it, you can stream Amazon Music on your set-top box, including the free Prime Music subscription that comes with an Amazon Prime account as well as the premium Amazon Music Unlimited service.

NVIDIA is also treating its SHIELD TV to 5.1 audio for YouTube with this update as well as an auto-update option and the ability to customize the Quick Settings. You can now use SMBv3 when connecting the SHIELD TV to a NAS or PC, too. To see NVIDIA's full list of fixes and improvements in the SHIELD Experience Upgrade 7.2 update, go here.

To celebrate this update and the holiday season, NVIDIA is discounting the SHIELD TV by $30. This discount applies to the standard edition that comes with a remote, the Gaming Edition that adds a controller, and the Smart Home Edition that adds in a SmartThings Link. The discount is available at Amazon, Best Buy, and NVIDIA's SHIELD store.

There aren't a ton of Android TV set-top boxes to choose from, but thanks to NVIDIA's continued support for the SHIELD TV, this is one of the best options you can get.
