YouTube Music and YouTube Premium now offer discounted student plans

After launching its new music-focused services earlier this year, YouTube is now offering student plans for those services.

YouTube Music and YouTube Premium now offer lower cost student plans. Students can score a subscription to YouTube Music for $4.99 per month, down from the normal $9.99 per month price. YouTube Premium is available to students for $6.99 per month, down from its normal price of $11.99 per month. Students who sign up for YouTube Premium before January 31, 2019 can save even more because they can get a YouTube Premium subscription for $5.99.

YouTube Music and YouTube Premium are YouTube's two latest paid subscription services. YouTube Music offers music streaming with albums, playlists, singles, music videos, live performances, and covers. The content streams ad-free and includes both background listening and offline access.

Meanwhile, YouTube Premium takes all of the benefits of YouTube Music and extends them to the non-music parts of YouTube. That means that with YouTube Premium, you can stream all YouTube videos ad-free and have both background playback and offline downloads. You'll also get access to all of the YouTube Originals shows.

One other detail worth mentioning is that these student plans are currently only available to full-time students enrolled at a college or university in the U.S. YouTube says that it plans to expand to more countries in the future.

We've seen several other music and video streaming services launch discounted student plans, so it makes sense that YouTube Music and YouTube Premium would have special student offers as well. These are nice deals for YouTube's paid subscriptions, so if you're an eligible student, go to YouTube Music or YouTube Premium and begin the sign-up process.
