iOS 12.1 update will be released tomorrow

After going through some beta testing, iOS 12.1 is ready for public consumption.

Apple will release iOS 12.1 tomorrow, October 30, to all iOS 12-compatible devices. The update brings with it several notable new features, including more than 70 new emoji. These include a bagel, a cupcake, a mosquito, a softball, a skateboard, and a frisbee.

The update to iOS 12.1 will also bring Group FaceTime. This feature was originally slated to roll out with iOS 12, but during testing, Apple decided to delay it. Now it looks like Group FaceTime is finally ready to go. FaceTime is also gaining features like automatic detection of active speakers, ringless notification, Messages integration, and end-to-end encryption with the update to iOS 12.1.

iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR owners are getting real-time depth control with the update to iOS 12.1, letting them control the blurriness of the background in their Portrait Mode photos before they take them. Those three new iPhones are also gaining dual SIM support with this update. Finally, Apple has said that the update to iOS 12.1 will fix the iPhone XS "Beautygate" bug that has resulted in overly smoothed photos being taken by the device's front-facing camera.
