OnePlus 6T will ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack

One trend we've seen in mobile lately is smartphones ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack, letting manufacturers make their phones thinner or letting them cram other features into the devices. Now another phone maker is getting rid of the headphone jack.

The OnePlus 6T will not have a 3.5mm headphone jack. OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei confirmed the decision in an interview with TechRadar, saying that removing the headphone jack will let OnePlus "put more new technology into the product." He added that a recent survey found that 59 percent of the OnePlus community owns wireless headphones and that "making a great phone doesn't mean putting every component available into the device."

Pei also said that the OnePlus 6T will include an adapter in the box, so you will be able to use 3.5mm headphones that way if you've got a pair that you really like.

The OnePlus co-founder also teased that the OnePlus 6T will offer better battery life. He didn't reveal much else on that front, but he did say that the improvement will be "substantial enough for users to realize."

Some OnePlus users will likely be disappointed to learn that the new 6T will ditch the headphone jack after previous models have included it. At least OnePlus is throwing an adapter in the box to make the transition a bit smoother. You'll just have to remember to carry that adapter with you if you want to listen to music with your 3.5mm headphones.
