Huawei Mate 20 render leak hints at small notch and triple rear camera setup

We've seen several Android device makers adopt the notch, but some companies are working to make their notch smaller than the typical notch. A new leak shows that Huawei may be one of those companies.

A new batch of leaked renders claims to show off the upcoming Huawei Mate 20. It's worth noting that these are not official renders, but are instead created from photographs of an actual Mate 20 that were seen by XDA-Developers. These renders were made to protect the sources identity.

Getting to the phone, the Huawei Mate 20 has a small notch at the top of its screen that's reminiscent of the Essential Phone. There's a speaker above that notch, too, and a chin at the bottom of the screen.

Another notable feature of this Huawei Mate 20 is its triple rear camera setup. Unlike the Huawei P20 Pro that launched earlier this year with a vertically-stacked triple rear camera setup, though, the Mate 20's three rear cameras are fit into a square, with the flash taking up the fourth quadrant.

Today's leak also hints that the Huawei Mate 20 will come equipped with a 6.3-inch 2244x1080 AMOLED display, Kirin 980 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. It's expected that the phone will include USB-C and 3.5mm ports, a rear fingerprint reader, and a 4200mAh battery powering the whole package. On the software side, the Mate 20 may come preloaded with Android 9 Pie.

Not everyone loves the notch, but at least with devices like the Huawei Mate 20, the notch is smaller and less obtrusive than it is on some other phones. It's unclear when we might get to meet the Mate 20 and its notch in person, but the Mate 10 was announced in mid-October 2017, so we may still be a couple of months out from the Mate 20's official reveal. Stay tuned.
