YouTube shares list of Signature Devices that offer best video-watching experience

YouTube is one of the most popular smartphone apps around, and it's available across mobile platforms. This week, though, YouTube has come out with a new Signature Device program to let you know which devices are best for watching YouTube on the go.

The list of YouTube Signature devices includes lots of flagship smartphones, such as the new Samsung Galaxy Note 9, the HTC U12+, the OnePlus 6, and the LG G7 ThinQ. Interestingly, there are no Apple devices present.

To qualify as a YouTube Signature Device, a phone needs to support high dynamic range, high frame rate, reliable DRM performance, 4K decoding, and next generation video codecs. Here's the full list of phones that qualify as a YouTube Signature Device:

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 9
  • Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium
  • HTC U12+
  • OnePlus 6
  • LG G7 ThinQ
  • Xiaomi Mi 8
  • Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact
  • Sony Xperia XZ2
  • Nokia 8 Sirocco
  • Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
  • Samsung Galaxy S9
  • Samsung Galaxy S9+
  • Google Pixel 2
  • Google Pixel 2 XL
  • Huawei Mate 10 Pro
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 8
  • LG V30
  • Samsung Galaxy S8
  • Samsung Galaxy S8+

While you can still watch YouTube videos just fine on phones that aren't included in this list, it's probably a nice little perk if you've got a phone that is included and you like to watch a lot of YouTube. Is your phone a YouTube Signature Device?
