Google's beta testing of Android P continues today with a new beta release.
Android P Beta 3 (Developer Preview 4) is now rolling out. This update is "very close" to what the final Android P release will look like when it comes out later this summer, says Dave Burke, VP of Engineering on Android. The update includes bug fixes and optimizations as well as the July 2018 Android security patches.
To get this update, you'll need to enroll your compatible device in the Android Beta Program. Devices in this program will automatically receive Android P Beta 3 over the air. The Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL should begin receiving the update immediately, and Google's partners that are participating in the Android P beta should begin pushing this update in the coming weeks.
Android P is a significant update for Google's mobile operating system. One of the biggest changes is support for gesture navigation, letting you move throughout the OS with swipes. For example, a swipe up will bring you to the new Overview that'll let you see your running apps, a Google search bar, and five app shortcuts. Swiping up again will bring you to your app drawer.
Other notable new features coming with Android P include a Dashboard to let you see how much you've been using your phone, an App Timer to set daily per app usage limits, and App Actions, which will try to predict exactly what you want to do next with your phone, like launching a Spotify playlist after you plug in headphones. Also included in Android P is official support for display notches.
