NVIDIA Shield TV now receiving Android 8.0 Oreo update

NVIDIA is now sending a major software update to the Shield TV.

The NVIDIA Shield TV is now receiving an update to Android 8.0 Oreo, which brings a brand new home screen. A Favorite Apps section will give you quick access to the apps you care most about, while a Play Next section will let you jump back in to a show or game that you haven't finished. A Channels section will highlight new content from your favorite apps.

Also included in this update is improved support for game controllers, the newest Android security patches, stability fixes for the Shield remote and Shield controller, and the ability to quickly access the Settings from your home screen by holding the Back button.

This update is now rolling out, but NVIDIA does say that it'll be a staged release over the next few weeks, so it might take a little time for the update to hit your Shield TV.

This is a major update for the Shield TV, and it's great to see NVIDIA continue to show love to the device. There aren't a ton of Android TV boxes on the market, but the Shield TV continues to be one of the best options available because NVIDIA continues to update it with new features and security patces.
