Google Play offers an array of entertainment that includes books, movies, TV shows, and music, and today that selection is expanding.
Google now sells audiobooks on Google Play. Audiobooks are available in 45 countries and nine languages, and users can listen to them across Android, iOS, and the web with Google Play Books as well as on devices with Google Assistant. You can pick up where you left off in your book no matter which device you're using.
With Google Assistant, you can get use voice commands while having a book read to you. This means you can ask a question like "Ok Google, who is the author?" and also do things like set timers by saying "Ok Google, stop playing in 20 minutes" to have Google Assistant read to you while you go to sleep.
Google Assistant support for audiobooks is available on Android phones and smart speakers globally in English. It'll come soon to Assistant on Android Auto in the US.
Audiobooks offer a free preview so you can learn a bit more about a book and hear the narrator's voice before buying. Plus, users with Family Library can share audiobooks for free.
Considering that Google already sells books in addition to music, movies, and TV shows, adding audiobooks to Google Play's digital shelves seems like a smart idea.
