Google rolls out three experimental photography apps for Android and iOS

Google has never been one to shy away from releasing experimental apps and seeing if they stick, and today Google has unleashed three new apps for everyone to try.

Google is kicking off its first part in a series of what it's calling "photography appsperiments." These aim to be useful mobile photography apps that are built on Google's experimental tech.

There are three new apps that are now available as part of Google's appsperiment:

  • Storyboard is an Android-only app that turns your videos into comic book-style single page layouts. Once you've captured a video, you load it into Storyboard and the app will automatically select interesting video frames and lay them out in a storyboard. It'll also apply one of six filters. You can then either save the storyboard or pull down to create a new one.

  • Selfissimo! is an automated selfie photographer for Android and iOS. When you tap the screen to start a photoshoot, the app will encourage you to pose and then snap a photo whenever it senses that you've stopped moving. Tap the screen again to end the photoshoot and review the contact sheet, then you can save individual selfies or the entire photoshoot.

  • Scubbies is an iOS-only app that lets you manipulate the speed and direction of video playback. You can scrub with one finger to play the video, and once you find a video loop that you like, scrub with two fingers to capture the playback and then save it.
