Huawei intros octa-core Kirin 970 processor

Huawei today took to the IFA 2017 stage to introduce its newest flagship mobile processor.

The Kirin 970 is now official. Huawei’s new SoC is built using a 10nm advanced process and includes an 8-core CPU and 12-core GPU. The Kirin 970 is also equipped with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which Huawei says can help the 970 offer up to 25x the performance and 50x greater efficiency than a quad-core Cortex-A73 cluster.

Huawei also touts the inclusion of the advanced dual image signal processors (ISPs) in the Kirin 970. This dual ISP setup offers faster focus and phase detection and can also help to cut down on noise in your photographs.

Unsurprisingly, Huawei plans to use its new flagship processor in its next flagship smartphone. Huawei has confirmed that the Mate 10 will be powered by a Kirin 970 chipset. The Mate 10 is scheduled to be fully revealed at an event on October 16th.
