Samsung confirms battery-limiting Galaxy Note 7 update, says 85 percent of devices in US returned

Looks like the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 7 isn’t the only model that’ll be getting a battery-limiting update.

Samsung has announced that in the coming days, it will release an update to all Galaxy Note 7s still in the market that will prevent them from charging beyond 60 percent. Additionally, all Note 7s will display a recall pop-up notification every time the owner charges, reboots, or turns on the screen of their phone.

Samsung reports that as of today, November 4, nearly 85 percent of all Note 7 devices in the US have been returned. The majority of Note 7 owners have opted to swap their recalled device for another Samsung smartphone.

This move is likely going to irk anyone that’s still using a Galaxy Note 7, but that’s kind of the point. Samsung wants all of the Note 7s in the market to be returned in order to prevent any more units from catching fire and potentially harming people, and so they’re going to issue an update to all Note 7s that’ll prevent them from charging much farther than half of their battery capacity and nag them with notifications throughout the day.
