Samsung today kicked off a new promotion for Father’s Day, but you don’t have to be a father to take advantage of it.
From June 1 through June 19, Samsung will give you a free Gear VR and a $50 “VR content experience” when you buy a Galaxy S7, S7 edge, S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, or Note 5. To qualify, you’ll need to buy your new Galaxy on a installment plan, two-year contract, lease, or at full retail price.
Once you buy your phone, you’ll need to visit the Samsung Promotions website and enter info like your full name, mailing address, email, the IMEI and Wi-Fi MAC address of your phone, and your receipt. To get your gifts, you’ll need to enter all of that info by June 30.
The Gear VR is a pretty solid VR experience for most folks, letting them use their phone for VR rather than plunking down hundreds and hundreds of dollars for a gaming PC and headset like the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. Using a phone for its VR experience also lets the Gear VR be portable, meaning that you can use it anywhere rather than being stuck in a room wherever your PC is. And right now you can get a Gear VR for free with the purchase of any Samsung flagship from 2015 or 2016, so if you’ve been thinking about picking up a new Android phone, now might be the time to pull the trigger of a Galaxy.
