AT&T Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge receiving Android 6.0.1 updates today

Last month, Samsung dropped some info on the Android 6.0 update for the AT&T version of the Galaxy S6. Samsung pulled the info shortly thereafter, and now it looks like they might have jumped the gun.

AT&T announced today that it’s pushing Android 6.0.1 updates to both its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. Both updates add AT&T Video Calling, makes some changes to preloaded apps — adds Amazon and removes Facebook Messenger, for example — and includes the May 2016 Android security patches.

Here’s the official changelog for the updates, courtesy of AT&T:

Device Update Enhancements:

  • Android OS 6.0 Marshmallow
  • Adds Video Calling
  • Removes Keeper, AT&T Live, FB Messenger
  • Adds Amazon to full preload
  • Moves AT&T Mail and YP Mobile to a Virtual Preload

Both updates are rather large, weighing in at 1.45GB, so you’re going to want to find the fastest Wi-Fi connection you can before starting your download. To check for your GS6 or GS6 edge’s update, go into Settings, navigate to the System category, select “About device”, and select “Software update”.

These are major updates for AT&T’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. Not only do they bring the two phones up to the very latest version of Android, but they also add a notable feature with built-in video calling and add the very latest Android security patches. So yeah, if you’ve got an AT&T GS6 or GS6 edge, you should try to grab your phone’s update as soon as possible.
