T-Mobile Galaxy S7 and S7 edge updated with FM radio support, May security patches

T-Mobile is pushing updates to its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge today, and if you own either device, you’re going to want to keep an eye out.

The 164MB updates for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge add FM radio support, meaning that owners can use an app like NextRadio to listen to local radio stations. NextRadio touts that its FM radio app uses less data than streaming music — though with Music Freedom, T-Mobile customers don’t use any data for streaming music from many services — and that FM radio uses less battery than streaming, too.

Also included in this update is the May security update for Android devices, bringing the latest security patches to the T-Mo GS7 and GS7 edge. Finally, T-Mobile says that these updates include a fix for a Power and Volume key issue that some folks are experiencing, as well as “various system improvements.”

So yeah, this is a pretty nice update for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge owners on T-Mobile. The addition of FM radio support is big, because while a lot of people do like to stream music using apps like Spotify or TuneIn, having FM radio support makes it easy to listen to local stations, and it could save you some battery life, too. Meanwhile, the inclusion of the May Android security update is great because it’s only May 4, and those folks are already receiving the latest patches.

If you’ve got a T-Mo GS7 or GS7 edge, you should see this update hit your phone between May 4 and May 13. If you’d like to try and grab it manually, head into Settings > about device > Download updates manually
