Apple Watch 2 rumored to include cellular connectivity, faster processor

We’re now one year out from the official launch of the Apple Watch, and so attention is starting to turn to the second generation model that Apple is likely working on. A new report has surfaced that claims to detail some of the changes that’ll be made with Apple Watch 2.

Sources speaking to the Wall Street Journal say that Apple will include a a faster processor in the Apple Watch 2. The original Apple Watch includes an S1 “system in a package” that was designed by Apple. The sources also say that Apple will build cellular connectivity into the Apple Watch 2.

One of the most widespread complaints about the Apple Watch is that it’s slow, especially when it comes to third-party apps. We’ll have to wait until the Apple Watch 2 is made official before we know for sure what features it includes, but considering the complaints about the Apple Watch’s performance, an updated processor seems like a pretty good bet for the Apple Watch 2.

Meanwhile, cellular connectivity could enable the Apple Watch to work with phone calls and texts without a paired smartphone. That feature could come in handy, especially for folks that like to go out with just their watch (like for exercising), but it could also cause battery life to take a hit. Here’s to hoping that if Apple is planning to include cellular connectivity in the Apple Watch 2, it’s got a bigger battery in its plans, too.
