Marshmallow use doubles in Google's April 2016 Android distribution stats

Now that we’re into the first full week of April, Google is celebrating by releasing its April 2015 Android platform distribution numbers.

Google’s stats show that adoption of Android 6.0 Marshmallow has doubled from 2.3 percent in March to 4.6 percent in April, while Android Lollipop (5.0 and 5.1) fell just a smidge, going from 36.1 percent to 35.8 percent.

Moving on to 4.x versions of Android 4.4 KitKat fell from 34.3 percent in March to 33.4 percent in April. Android Jelly Bean (4.1, 4.2, and 4.3) combined to appear on 21.3 percent of devices in April, down from 22.3 percent in March, while Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich dropped from 2.3 percent in March to 2.2 percent in April.

Rounding out the pie chart is Android 2.3 Gingerbread and Android 2.2 Froyo still holding steady with 2.6 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively.

As a reminder, Google gathers these numbers by watching the Google Play Store app during a 7-day period, with the latest survey period ending on April 4. The latest numbers show that Marshmallow is still a ways behind older versions of Android like Lollipop, KitKat, and even Jelly Bean, but at least its piece of this pie did double. As Android 6.0-equipped devices like the GS7 and G5 continue to sell, and manufacturers continue to update their older hardware to Marshmallow, we should see Android 6.0’s share continue to climb.

So, which version of Android are you currently running?
