AT&T Unite Explore is a rugged mobile hotspot that can also recharge your phone

Usually when we talk about rugged devices, we’re talking about phones like the Galaxy S6 Active or smartwatches like the Casio WSD-F10. That’s not the case today, though, as AT&T has announced a rugged mobile hotspot.

The AT&T Unite Explore is a rugged mobile Wi-Fi hotspot that’ll hit AT&T stores on April 1 for $49.99 with a two-year contract. It’s got a 2.4-inch touchscreen to display info and enable you to access various features and settings, and it can support up to 15 device connections at once. The Unite Explore supports LTE Advanced and global 4G LTE compatibility, and it offers dual-band 802.11ac/b/g/n Wi-Fi.

Other features of the Unite Explore include Guest Wi-Fi with a timer, content filtering, and up to 22 hours of battery life on a single charge. And if your smartphone battery starts to run low, you can use the Unite Explore’s BatteryBoost feature to share some of your hotspot’s battery power with your phone.

All of those features are wrapped in a body that’s IP65-rated and certified to meet MIL-STD-810G. That means that it’s shock resistant, dustproof, and water resistant.

Because you’re probably going to traveling with a mobile hotspot and using it while you’re out and about, having a ruggedized hotspot makes some sense. The Unite Explore’s ruggedized shell can help to protect it from accidental spills, like if you’re working at a coffee shop, or any time that you might drop it while moving around. If a ruggedized mobile hotspot sounds like it’d be a good fit for you, you can snag the Unite Explore from AT&T later this week.
