LG Pay White Card leak shows upcoming universal payments card

LG confirmed last year that it was working on a mobile payment service called LG Pay, but the company hasn’t said anything else about the project since then. As is usually the case, though, the rumor mill isn’t staying quiet.

An image of the LG Pay White Card has made its way online. Shared by ET News, the White Card is said to be around the same size and thickness as a traditional credit card, but it can support multiple cards. The device has left and right buttons in its lower right corner that can be used to select which card you’re using, which will then be displayed on the low-power LCD. The connectors on the left of the White Card are used to charge it.

The LG Pay White Card is expected to be announced at MWC 2016 next month. While the White Card isn’t the first of its kind — there are already similar devices like Coin and Plastc in the US — the device is different than the ways that companies like Apple and Samsung are attacking mobile payments. LG also has a bit more reach that the Coin and Plastc cards. What’s unknown is when the LG Pay White Card will actually launch and where — outside of LG’s home of South Korea, where LG has reportedly already struck deals with banks — but if this report is to be believed, we’ll learn more next month.
