BlackBerry Priv January security update now rolling out

The same day that Google began pushing Android security updates to its Nexus devices, BlackBerry is doing the same with the Priv.

The January security update is now making its way to select models of the BlackBerry Priv. The update is build AAD250 and is hitting Priv units purchased from ShopBlackBerry as well as “some carriers,” with more carrier units slated to get the update next week.

The update is a small one, coming in at just around 16MB. The update includes the latest security patches, so you should probably grab it as soon as you see it.

When BlackBerry launched the Priv, it touted monthly security updates as one of the features of its new Android phone. While there are some other Android devices that get monthly security updates of their own, this is still a selling point for the Priv, and it’s good that BlackBerry is sticking to that commitment. The company positions itself as being focused on security, so it needs to make sure that its flagship phone is safe.
