Sprint intros new promo that'll cut switchers' rate plans in half

Sprint’s countdown timer has hit zero, and so the big yellow carrier has revealed exactly what it was teasing yesterday.

Starting November 20, Sprint will cut the rate plans of AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon switchers in half through January 8, 2018. The discount will apply to “most” plans. Sprint does note that it has a $36 per line activation fee when you do switch.

In addition to its new half off promo, Sprint is vowing to give switchers up to $650 — in the form of an American Express prepaid reward card — to cover the fees associated with switching carriers. To get the reward, you’ll need to switch to Sprint and trade in your existing smartphone.

So there’s Sprint’s big announcement. The new promo is reminiscent of the Cut Your Bill in Half offer that Sprint launched in 2014, which also halved the rate plans of AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon switchers. Just because it’s not totally new doesn’t mean it’s not worth a look if you’re thinking about jumping ship from your current carrier, though. You'll just need to keep in mind that the halved rate plan will last until January 8, 2016, at which point your plan will likely see a notable price increase.

Sprint also recently announced its LTE Plus service, which appears to be a rebranded version of Sprint Spark. LTE Plus utilizes 800MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz spectrum to offer a combination of high speeds, broad coverage, and building penetration. Sprint says that with LTE Plus, customers can see speeds surpassing 100Mbps, provided that they have 1 of the 13 LTE Plus-compatible smartphones. Those include the iPhone 6s, Galaxy S6, and HTC One A9.

LTE Plus is currently available in 77 markets.
