Fossil officially announces Q Founder smartwatch with Android Wear

Fossil is known for making its analog watches, but now the company is entering the smartwatch market with the Q Founder.

The Q Founder runs Android Wear on a round touchscreen, and it’s powered by an Intel processor. Spec details for the Q Founder haven’t yet been revealed, but images show that it does have a crown button on its side. Fossil says that the Q Founder will launch “just in time for the holiday shopping season” at a starting price of $275.

Fossil’s Q Founder looks like a nicely designed smartwatch, but given Fossil’s history with analog watches, it’s no surprise that the company knows how to make a nice-looking watch. What will be interesting is seeing how it performs, especially considering that it’s got an Intel processor while most other Android Wear watches are powered by Qualcomm chips.

One other thing that’s notable about the Q Founder is that it’ll have Fossil’s backing. Not only is Fossil already well-known among regular consumers as a watchmaker, but Fossil also has its own stores across the country that consumers often walk into looking for a watch. Those details could help give the Q Founder a leg up on its Android Wear competition.

Fossil today also announced 3 other smart wearable devices. There’s the Q Reveler and Q Dreamer, which are activity trackers that cost $125 apiece, and the Q Grant that looks like a regular analog watch but can also track fitness and show your phone’s notifications. All three of these wearables can sync up to an Android or iOS smartphone using Fossil’s proprietary app.
