The new Apple iPhone 6s, along with its larger counterpart, the iPhone 6s Plus, were just officially announced during Apple’s live keynote.
The new iPhone 6s models, following typical “s” protocol, both share nearly the exact same body as their respective progenitors from last year. However, the new iPhones feature new, stronger 7000 Series aluminum bodies and stronger cover glass. The other changes made to iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will be purely performance-based, with the new 3D Touch (previously referred to as "Force Touch") being touted as one of the most important new features.
We have also been shown that a new Rose Gold color will be offered for the new "s" variants.
Update: The new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus both feature Apple's new A9 64-bit processor. Alongside the A9, they both also feature the M9 co-processor, which is now "always on". The "always on" feature of the M9 co-processor helped lead into the announcement of the new "Hey Siri" feature. "Hey Siri" is how you can get Siri's attention with her new "always on" listening ability, similar to what was introduced with the Motorola Moto X back in 2013. This is a great addition to the iPhone as you can now use many of the iPhone's features via Siri completely hands-free.
The new iPhones also tout updated cameras on both the back and the front. The new rear-facing camera features an improved 12-megapixel shooter, a big step above the 8-megapixel cameras found on last year's models. On the front, you'll find an updated 5-megapixel camera that also features new "Retina Flash", which uses the iPhone's display to act as a "flash" when taking photos. The new iPhones also feature the ability to shoot 4K video.
Apple also used the new 3D Touch to introduce "Live Photos", which is similar to HTC's Zoe in the sense that you can view a second and a half of "photos" to help capture the moment in which you've taken the photo. Live Photos string the photos together to create a very short video with sound.
Both new iPhone base models still starts at 16GB of internal memory, with 64GB and 128GB models offered as well.
As for the prices, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are priced as you'd expect them to be. For the iPhone 6S, the 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB model will run you $199, $299, and $399 respectively (contract/agreement price). The iPhone 6s Plus models are priced at $299, $399, and $499 for the 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB models respectively.
You can pre-order the new Apple iPhone models starting on September 12th, with the official release date being September 25th.
