NVIDIA SHIELD tablet update brings Android 5.1.1, optimizations, and fixes

Earlier today, NVIDIA announced that it was recalling some of its SHIELD tablet models due to concerns that one version of battery may overheat and cause a fire. If you’ve got the model that won’t overheat, though, congratulations! You not only get to avoid the recall, but you’re getting a software update too!

NVIDIA is now pushing an update to the SHIELD tablet that includes Android 5.1.1, the newest version of Android that’s available to the public. The update also brings stability and performance improvements as well as some system-wide optimizations and fixes, including some focused on audio.

NVIDIA has been pretty good about pushing Android OS updates out to its SHIELD products in a timely manner, and that continues with the Android 5.1.1 update. And while it’s not a huge update from Android 5.1, I’m betting that most SHIELD tablet owners are still going to be pretty pumped about being updated to the very latest version of Android that’s available to the public. Good on ya, NVIDIA.
