T-Mobile Mobile Without Borders: calls, texts, and data in Canada and Mexico at no extra charge

T-Mobile’s next Un-carrier Amped move is official, and this time T-Mo has chosen to beef up its original Un-carrier move, Simple Choice.

Mobile Without Borders is the new T-Mobile offering that’ll let you use your phone in Canada and Mexico just like you would in the US. That means that you can make calls to both mobile and landline phones, use texting and consume 4G LTE data in Canada and Mexico without incurring any roaming fees. The feature will also let you use Music Freedom and Wi-Fi Calling in those countries, and T-Mo plans to enable support for Data Stash later this year.

It's also worth noting that with Mobile Without Borders, you can also use your T-Mobile phone to make calls and send texts to Canada and Mexico while you're still in the U.S.

To make Mobile Without Borders happen, T-Mobile worked with six carriers in Canada and two carriers in Mexico to gain roaming coverage. However, T-Mo’s not revealing the terms of its deals with those operators.

Mobile Without Borders launches on July 15, and it’ll be available to all Simple Choice customers, both prepaid and postpaid. New customers will get it automatically, but existing T-Mo subscribers will have to switch to a current Simple Choice plan either over the phone, online, or in store. If you’ve got a grandfathered plan that you don’t want to lose, you’ll be able to add Mobile Without Borders to it for $10 per month.

T-Mobile today also teased its Q2 2015 numbers. During the second quarter of 2015, T-Mobile added 2.072 million subscribers, bringing its total customer base to 58.9 million subs. During the quarter, more than 1 million branded postpaid customers joined T-Mobile, while 178,000 branded prepaid carriers joined the magenta network

T-Mobile will report its full Q2 2015 results on July 30.
