Recent rumors have suggested that one of the upgrades that Apple is planning for the iPhone 6s is Force Touch, a feature on the Apple Watch and MacBook that allows the device to tell how hard you’re pressing and offer different options for different pressure. Now a report claims that Apple has begun making iPhone models with Force Touch in tow.
Sources say that Apple has kicked off “early production” of new iPhone hardware with the Force Touch feature. The iPhone models are said to feature the same screen sizes as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus — 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch, respectively — and as well as a similar design.
Apple’s “s” model iPhones, like the 3GS and 5s, have all borrowed the design of the previous model while upgrading some of the phones internals. It sounds like that’s going to be the case this year, too, but the addition of Force Touch will be big for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Force Touch will add a totally new method of navigating iOS, and it’ll be interesting to see how Apple and iOS app developers integrate Force Touch into their software.
It’s also worth noting that nothing is official until Apple says it is, including Force Touch for the iPhone. Considering that Force Touch is already on the Apple Watch and MacBook, though, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it come to the iPhone as well as Apple makes it a common feature across all of its platforms.
