Google said to be prepping two new Nexus smartphones made by LG and Huawei [UPDATED]

UPDATE: Android Police has updated their report to say that the codenames of these devices should be flipped. That means that the smaller LG-made phone is codenamed "Bullhead" and that the larger Huawei device is codenamed "Angler."

Now that we’ve seen the 2015 flagships of several major manufacturers and we’re nearing the end of the first half of the year, there’s a lot of focus being put on Google’s new Nexus hardware. That includes the rumor mill, which has produced a new rumor suggested that Google may have a couple of Nexus phones planned for this year.

Sources speaking to Android Police say that Google is working with LG and Huawei on two new Nexus smartphones. The LG-made phone is reportedly codenamed “Angler” and may feature a 5.2-inch display and a 2700mAh battery. Also said to be included is the same hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor that’s powering the LG G4.

The larger of the two Nexus phones will allegedly be made by Huawei and feature the codenamed “Bullhead.” This device is said to include a 5.7-inch screen, Snapdragon 810, and a beefier 3500mAh battery to provide juice to the bigger screen and octa-core processor.

What about a tablet, you ask? According to this reports sources, Google’s planning to stick with the Nexus 9 for 2015, skipping a new tablet in favor of two smartphones.

We’ll probably have to wait several months before Google unveils these two Nexus phones, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t speculate about ‘em now. The dual smartphone approach is one that Google hasn’t taken in the past, but it might not be a bad idea. When the Nexus 6 debuted, many felt that it was a bit too large to be their daily driver, and there was a lot of clamoring for an updated version of the Nexus 5. That sounds like what the 5.2-inch Angler is, and it’s even made by LG, who made the Nexus 5. Meanwhile, the Bullhead will be Huawei’s first Nexus smartphone, and so it’ll be interesting to see what the company can come up with for its first Google collaboration.
