Moto X (1st Gen.) Android 5.1 update expected to arrive in a few weeks

The Moto X (2nd Gen.) has been running Android 5.0 for a while now, but owners of the first generation Moto X are still on Android 4.4, and many of them are likely getting antsy waiting for their Lollipop update. Today we’ve got some news that should help settle ‘em down a bit.

Motorola’s David Schuster has announced that the Moto X (1st Gen.)’s Android 5.1 update is now in “TestDrive” in both the U.S. and Latin America and that the update should begin rolling out to the public “in a few weeks.” As for why it’s taken this long to get Android 5.1 for the Moto X (1st Gen.) ready to be deployed, Schuster says that the update process has been difficult due to a lack of support from some unnamed partners.

I’m sure that the wait for Lollipop has been pretty frustrating for Moto X (1st Gen.) owners, but that patience is going to be rewarded with a bump up to the newest version of Android, complete with a Material Design-ified UI refresh, the ability to switch Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections from Quick Settings, and a whole lot more. Here’s to hoping that no issues crop up in this “TestDrive” and that the Android 5.1 update rolls out as planned.
