Gmail for Android gaining a unified inbox view and several more new features

It looks like Google Drive isn’t the only Google app getting a major update today.

The Gmail app for Android is gaining a unified inbox feature that’ll display all of your messages at once, regardless of which account they were sent to. Previously, you’d have to hop between your different inboxes in the Gmail sidebar to view messages in different accounts.

Having a unified inbox is a major help when you’ve got several different accounts to manage, saving you the time (and preventing you from getting annoyed) because you don’t have to constantly jump between your different email addresses. It’s kind of surprising that it took Gmail’s official Android app this long to get a unified inbox view, but hey, it’s finally here. Now hopefully it’ll make its way to the iOS app as well.

In addition to a unified inbox view, Gmail for Android is gaining support for threaded conversations in Yahoo, Outlook, and other IMAP/POP accounts, improved auto-complete when searching your inboxes, more responsive animations, larger attachment previews, and the ability to save content to Google Drive with a single tap.
