YotaPhone 2 U.S. launch confirmed, YotaPhone 2c and YotaPhone 3 teased

After making its international debut in December 2014, the YotaPhone 2 is going to be making its way to the U.S.

YotaPhone has announced that its dual-screen YotaPhone 2 smartphone will be available in the U.S. through Indiegogo. The crowdfunding campaign will begin in the spring, and it’s expected that the unit will sell for around $600 without a contract. YotaPhone will also offer backer incentives in its Indiegogo campaign that may include cases or perhaps a discounted price. YotaPhone’s site teases that it’ll offer early bird pricing in April. A white version of the YotaPhone 2 will launch in the summer.

The YotaPhone 2 features a 5-inch 1920x1080 AMOLED display on one side and a 4.7-inch 960x540 e-paper touchscreen on the other side. The e-paper display is meant to show information while using considerably less power than the AMOLED display. The YotaPhone 2 also offers 8-megapixel rear and 2.1-megapixel front cameras, 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, Android 4.4, and a 2500mAh battery. The U.S. model will support AT&T and T-Mobile, including their 4G LTE service, and YotaPhone says that an Android 5.0 update will be available by the time that the U.S. launch happens or shortly thereafter.

The original YotaPhone wasn’t exactly widely available, so it’s exciting to see that the new model is coming to the U.S. And while there’s no word on a subsidized model that’ll be sold through a carrier — at least not yet — the YotaPhone 2’s no-contract price is at least competitive with other high-end smartphones.

Speaking of price, YotaPhone says that a cheaper version of the YotaPhone called the “YotaPhone 2c” is coming. The device will feature more mid-range specs than the regular YotaPhone 2, but it’ll keep the dual-screen setup that YotaPhone is known for. YotaPhone is also working on a YotaPhone 3 that it hopes to show at CES 2016.
