BlackBerry Leap is first of four new 'Berrys coming in 2015, slider phone also planned

Today’s a big day for BlackBerry fans. Not only did BlackBerry reveal a brand new smartphone at MWC 2015, it teased that it’s got three more coming in 2015.

The BlackBerry Leap is a new BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 smartphone that is targeted at “young mobile professionals.” The Leap is a mid-range smartphone with a price tag that’s pretty easy on the wallet: It’ll cost $275 unlocked when it launches in the spring.

In terms of specs, the BlackBerry Leap’s got a 5-inch 1280x720 display and 2-megapixel camera on its face and an 8-megapixel rear camera with flash on its backside. Inside the 9.5mm-thick body is a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD slot, 4G LTE connectivity, and a 2800mAh battery.

BlackBerry also revealed today that it plans to release four smartphones in 2015. The Leap is the first device, and BlackBerry is also planning another model with a physical keyboard as well as a phone with a curved screen and slide-out keyboard that you can see above. Finally, BlackBerry will once again team up with Porsche Design on a luxury model codenamed “Keian.”

Finally, BlackBerry announced that it’s going to release three new colors of the BlackBerry Classic. The Bold-style smartphone will soon be released in white, blue, and bronze color options.

It looks like BlackBerry’s got itself a variety of new smartphones coming in 2015. While most ‘Berry fans are likely physical keyboard fans, the Leap is an all-touch option for folks that just want a large display. Perhaps the most interesting upcoming BlackBerry is the slider model, which looks like it’ll offer a big screen, physical keyboard, and a form factor that we just don’t see much of anymore.
