Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet packs high-res display, Snapdragon 810 into 6.1mm-thick body

Sony today revealed a pair of new additions to its Android-powered Xperia lineup: one tablet and one smartphone.

First up is the Xperia Z4 Tablet, a souped-up tablet with a 10.1-inch 2k (2560x1440) display and a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor. Also included with Sony’s new tablet is an 8-megapixel rear camera, 5.1-megapixel wide-angle front-facing shooter, 32GB of storage, and a 6000mAh battery. All of that’s crammed into a body that’s 6.1mm thick. That’s 0.3mm thinner than the Xperia Z2 Tablet and 0.8mm thinner than the Xperia Tablet Z.

In addition to being thin, the Xperia Z4 Tablet’s body is made of mineral glass and stainless steel corners. The body is IP68 rated for protection from water up to 1.5m and 30 minutes as well as dust.

On the software side of things, Sony has included some audio enhancements. High-Res Audio will reproduce detailed high-frequency sound to offer a “studio-quality experience,” while DSEE HX will upscale the audio quality of tracks to near High-Res Audio quality. There’s also PS4 Remote Play for connecting your PlayStation 4 to your Xperia Z4 Tablet and playing PS4 games on the go. Finally, Xperia Lounge Gold will give you access to competitions, offers, early access to apps, and more.

Sony says that the Xperia Z4 Tablet will launch in June 2015 in both Wi-Fi and 4G LTE variants. It looks like a solid addition to Sony’s tablet lineup that offers a super-thin body, high-end specs, and a nice design that’s similar to the Xperia Z3 smartphone. And PlayStation fans can get even more out of the Z4 Tablet thanks to PS4 Remote Play. Its launch is still a few months out, but it looks like the Z4 Tablet has a chance to be one of the better Android tablets on the market when it is unleashed to the public.

Sony has also announced the new Xperia M4 Aqua, which you can read more about here.
