Sony Xperia M4 Aqua offers Xperia Z3 design around mid-range specs

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet brought a smartphone buddy with it to Barcelona.

The Sony Xperia M4 Aqua is an Android 5.0 smartphone that, as its name implies, is a waterproof (up to 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes) IP65/8 smartphone, even without a cover on its microUSB port. The Xperia M4 Aqua’s body is reminiscent of the Xperia Z3 and it’s got a dedicated camera button on its side for quick access to the 13-megapixel rear camera, which has an f/2.0 aperture and ISO 3200 sensitivity. The M4 Aqua’s also got a wide-angle 5-megapixel camera on its face.

Powering the Xperia M4 Aqua is a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor and a 2400mAh battery that’s rated to last up to two days. Sony’s also thrown in Ultra Stamina Mode to keep your phone going for up to a week by only letting it use core functionality. The Xperia M4 Aqua’s spec list also includes a 5-inch 1280x720 display, 16GB of storage, and 2GB of RAM.

Sony’s Xperia M4 Aqua will be available in 80 countries on more than 100 carriers starting spring 2015. Pricing will be set at €299 ($334 USD). That pricing could make the Xperia M4 Aqua an attractive option for folks that want a Xperia Z3-like device at a price that’ll be easier on their wallet.
