Google Drive for Android and iOS updated with significant new features

Google is on a roll with its app updates. Just a day after announcing new versions of Docs, Sheets and Slides, El Goog has revealed that the Google Drive apps for both Android and iOS are getting updates.

First up, Android users will be able to search for their Google Drive files from the Google app with a voice command. Saying something like “Ok Google, search for photos on Drive” will bring up your images without you having to actually open Google Drive and actually type out your search. Android folk will also be able to access and share custom maps created with Google My Maps.

On the iOS side, iPhone and iPad users will be able to upload stuff to Google Drive from other iOS apps. Apple users will be able to share custom maps created with Google My Maps as well, just like their Android counterparts. Google says that the updated version of Google Drive for iOS is already available, while the Android update will be released “over the next week or so.”

Both Android and iOS folk are getting some nice goodies with these updates — Android users with their “Ok Google” voice search and iOS people with their ability to upload from other apps — and it’s good to see both platforms getting significant new features simultaneously.
